Isn't It Exciting?

Quote of the day: "This is the story of America. Everybody's doing what they think they're supposed to do."- Jack Kerouac

     Standing at the cusp of American history and America as we know it, it's easy to take some irrational views on just what the fuck is going on around here. Sure, lots of people are talking about the end of America (Naomi Wolf), or the end of civilization (President Bush), but I'm not sure enough people are putting it into its historical perspective.

     It's exciting! Members of the current younger generation have the very real opportunity (and likelihood) of seeing the end of what was once a very great nation. Sure, we still do some great things, but we also do some terrible things, and if you allow yourself to take a realistic and unemotional view of things, it really is kind of neat.

</end tongue in cheek>

     As generations pass and the history books progress, they will talk about the once great nation of the United States of America, its meteoric rise and fall, and our democratic system that was the best government so far, but still shitty and dangerous given the instincts and weaknesses of man.

     So as your life carries forth, and you read about the secret prisons and the torture, the corrupt politicians and the even more corrupt Non-Politicians, remember that you are witnessing history in every sense. There were people there for the fall of Rome, and of Hellenistic Greek city-states such as Athens, Corinth, and Sparta; dynasties rose and fell at times that seemed impossible for both, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and Russia has managed to keep everyone fooled (in Soviet Russia, government serves YOU!). Even fictional civilizations fail, and often for the same reasons.

     If you are an American, or someone of any other nationality concerned with just what America might start to mean to the rest of the world in the near future, I suggest you read this, and also the book I link below. I haven't read the book yet, but I will soon.

     I really really think you should at least read this (same as above), though.

What People Are Saying:

"Okay okay okay. Here's the thing.. Sinja's alarm clock is the entire Master of Puppets album. He doesn't wake up until the last note is played. And after that, Sinja eats a bowl of razorblades and Wild Turkey. Washed down with an ice cold glass of lava. Sinja defies physical properties."- TheSarge
